The great Fatimi Dai, Syedna Qutubuddin ascended onto the throne of Dawat and guided Moomineen to the path of Haq. In most of his time, he remained busy with the spread of Ilm of Aale-Mohammed among Moomineen.
In the period of Syedna Qutubuddin, Aurangzeb came to Ahmedabad during his visit to Gujrat. His vazir, Abdul Gavi was a bigoted staunch sunni. Enemies of Dawat met him and stimulated him to molest Syedna Qutubuddin. He poisoned Aurangzeb's ear against Syedna (R. A) to get order of his arrest. He slandered Syedna Qutubuddin and blamed him that he is a Rafzi {one who has rejected the Shariat of Rasulullah (S. A. W) } therefore he should be slain. Aurangzeb ordered to arrest Syedna Qutubuddin and he was arrested on 27 Jamadil Ula 10056 AH. Enemies looted the Kutub of Dawat from his home. They went through the Kutub in order to prove that Syedna (R. A) was Rafzi. But, they could not prove their accusation. In spite of this, Syedna (R. A) was imprisoned along with his successor Syedna Shujauddin and two other pious persons. After some days, Syedna (R. A) was presented in the court of Aurangzeb. Abdul Gavi forced him to confess that he was Rafzi. But Syedna Qutubuddin openly and courageously declared, " I am a Muslim and follower of Rasulullah's Sunnah. Despite this, if you want to slay me, you can do it as you are the ruler. You may do harm to my body, but, you cannot do any harm to my soul." All courtmen were impressed by Syedna's courageous speech and rightful stand. But, they could not do any thing before Aurangzeb abd Gavi. Gavi being a staunch sunni was ready to release a pious shia. He prepared a false Mahdara (document) for the execution of Syedna Qutubuddin and on 27th jamadil Ukhra he was slain by tyrants in Ahmedabad at Karanj on the bank of Sabermati river.
After the martyrdom of Syedna Qutubuddin (R. A), there were open hostilities of enemies towards Moomineen. They were beaten and forced to abandon their faith and shave their beards (the sunnat of Rasulullah). Otherwise, they were ordered to expelled from the city.
